This Monday, from 3-5 p.m. in the faculty dining room, the Robyne’s Nest and Youth Employment Service (YES) youth empowerment organizations will work together to bring a free Employment Skills class to Fountain Valley High School (FVHS). This event is the first of two classes to be held at FVHS.

“[The Employment Skills course] teaches young adults how to find a job, how to fill out a resume, how to be in an interview, how to be a good employee, how to show up, how to groom, and how to present yourself,” said YES Board of Directors’ President Janet Randolph.

YES, a 48-year-old Costa Mesa-based organization, aims to prepare young adults age 16-24 for jobs through a comprehensive pre-employment training program. Teaching classes on-site at their Costa Mesa location for over 20 years, YES has recently begun reaching out to high schools and community outlets across Orange County and making their program more accessible to more people.

At FVHS, they will be offering two of their three main classes. Employment Skills will be held this Monday in the faculty dining room, and Mock Interviews will be held next Monday on Nov. 5 in the cafeteria.

“[The mock interview is] a fifteen-minute process where they will get the experience of going through an interview; how that would feel, and then get feedback in terms of what they’re doing really well in and things that they can improve on,” said YES Program Coordinator Sara Davis.

Both of these YES classes are being brought to FVHS thanks to the efforts of Robyne’s Nest, a charity organization that works with schools in the Huntington Beach Union High School District to provide living, transportation, education, and career resources to homeless or otherwise disadvantaged students.

Students can sign up for the classes here. The Employment Skills class is a mandatory prerequisite to the Mock Interviews.
